Kremasti is another one of the major settlements in Rhodes and it is highly recommended for family holidays. It is located in the south side of the island, 12 kilometres away from the City of Rhodes with a population of more than 3500 round-the-year inhabitants. Its full of traditional houses with beautiful decoration and big gardens and offers a wide extended beach with both pebbles and fine sand. The village was named after the church of Virgin Mary Kremasti, which is considered one of the main attractions of the area. In this very church a festival is taking place every year, starting from July 17th and going on for 9 days, with lots of happenings such as handwork displays, races with horses and donkeys and traditional celebrations every night. Besides the church of Virgin Mary Kremasti, with its stone patio and the wooden temple, the visitor has the opportunity to visit the ruins of a Venetian castle, located in the village. Inside this castle there is the small picturesque church of Agios Nikolaos. After you will have visited those remarkable sights, you will be able to swim in the deep blue waters of the beach of the settlement, to sunbathe or just relax under the shadow of the numerous trees. Across the sea shore there are some big hotel complexes, providing everything you are going to need to make your stay here even more pleasant. |
