Edipsos - Evia Island
Edipsos – Evia – Greece
  GENERAL INFORMATION

The town of Edipsos is located in the northwestern side of Evia, 118 kilometers away from Chalkida and approximately 200 kilometers away from Athens. It is famous mostly due to its healing baths that can be found within a distance of 4 kilometers from the main settlement, in the bay of Gialtra on the foot of Mount. Telethrio, offering infrastructures that render it a modern summer resort and healing centre. The first inhabitants were probably the Ionians and in antique years it was known as “Ellopia”, named after its founder, Ellopas. In addition, it was one of the first cities to issue its own currency, probably to the abundance of copper in the area. The appearance of the coin was made to suggest how rich the sea of Edipsos is, depicting a crab on the one side and a fish on the other.

During your stay here, you shouldn’t omit to pay a visit to the church of the Dormition of Virgin Mary, built in 1872 in baroque style and located on the central square of Edipsos. On the square you will also be able to find some traditional pastry shops, serving warm honey dumplings and yoghurt with honey. If you wish to explore the surrounding areas there are lots of things for you to discover. Within a distance of 8 kilometers, there is the lush green traditional settlement of Agios Nikolaos, with its deep blue sea, considered ideal for a family holiday. Approximately 10 kilometers south there is Agiokampos, where you can have a great time either by choosing one of the area’s night clubs, or by taking the boat to Glifa that has a beautiful beach to offer.
