Rovies are located in the northwestern side of the island of Evia, within a distance of 95 kilometers from Chalkida. It is very well-known for its excellent beach of small pebbles as well as for the majestic colorful sunsets that one has the opportunity to admire standing on this very beach. The village is surrounded by olive grove, where high quality olive oil is produced along with its renowned stuffed olives that are exported to many countries outside Greece. The area around Rovies has been displaying a significant development in tourist facilities, in favour of its visitors, that have now the chance to choose among various lodging facilities, both traditional and modern or even spend their vacation in the hospitable camping that attracts lots of tourists from all around the world.
In the area there are a few sights really worth visiting, such as the Venetian Castle that stands in the central spot of the settlement, which is also the village’s trademark. Within a distance of 20 minutes there is the fossil village of Kerasia. In about the same distance from Rovies, on the road leading to Kerasia, there is the waterfall of Drimonas, a natural location of exquisite beauty. The waterfall is formed from river Sipias and is surrounded by firs, pine trees, bearberry trees and oaks. There is path especially formed for the visitors, in order to explore the area, consisted of little bridges and bipods, as well as a wooden kiosk where a few local plants and fossils are on display. |
